Jobs Program

Access Guides offers a limited number of jobs and other supports for young people with an intellectual disability or cognitive impairment who have completed school.  

There is no cost to the program.

Employment and Supported Work Placement:

Up to three years in duration, the Jobs Program combines structured training with paid employment or supported work placements. Opportunities include:

 

  • tour safety & preparation

  • learning and relaying site information

  • guiding walks or drives

  • preparing small to large scale picnic events

  • barista / serving coffee and tea

  • customer service

  • conservation projects 

  • citizen science projects

  • horse care and disability horse riding guidance

  • gardening and landscaping

  • commercial catering and kitchen operations

All work is supervised and supported.  

Program Schedule:

Jobs Program participants spend 4-5 days per week in the program. 

This involves 3-4 days training each week and 1 day employment or supported placement each week. 

The training component of the program runs throughout the year.

Work and placement schedules typically follow school terms.

Employment and Financial Assistance:

Roles in tour guiding, ecotourism, conservation and citizen science projects are directly employed with Access Guides under the Award MA000080 (up to $25.08 per hour plus super).

Those wishing to pursue roles with Access Guides partners may seek financial and other supports.

The Jobs Program has limited places and commencement opportunities throughout the year. Applications are now open (application form below). Contact the Hub for dates on Information Sessions in your location.
